It's the Friday Fry Up! The weather has been lovely and fall like in Washington, DC this week. It's a good time to get out and take a walk! Although many people are simply out of town... things have been interesting in the news. Somebody needs to remind the world it's August, because things have just been soooo interesting...

John Edwards thought he would hide his affair in the August heat, the PR strategy was to let the news out at a time when no one would care or notice, not so golden boy. Everyone has noticed...he is like a child confessing right before a big party (The DNC convention) thinking his parents would not notice or have time to punish him.

Let's be blunt after reading all the information about the affair it seems like this: Elizabeth found out about the affair, thought about divorcing her husband for a.) the stupidity of having an affair during a campaign b.) having an affair c.) having it with a twit d.) all of the above. But she did not because she found out her cancer was coming back and she decided the kids needed her more during this time since Daddy is a jerk. And life will be hard enough for her kids when she passes on.....if she does not survive this round of cancer. In the meantime, John Edwards has continued the affair with Rielle most likely, maybe he has just kept contact because she is the mother of his child, but in light of recent events he probably just continued the affair. Two things, Rielle will one day tire of telling him that he is Gandhi and the relationship will end and more important his other kids will grow up to hate him. Moving along...
Russia is still being bad and trying to bully Georgia</u>. Can we give up the pretense? The Russians just want Georgia's oil.
Maybe somebody should start a no blood for oil campaign in Russia. Oops! They would never allow that to happen...

The real question is Russia that scary or is China the problem, or some other nuked up country? One might assume Russia is thinking we are too busy with Iraq to take them on.....ugh, it's like we are the super mommy world power and the kids are wrecking havoc.

And so, The movie Tropic Thunder is coming out, it has gotten good reviews, it's just that it makes some people feel bad because of the over the top satire.

And finally, it is time to retire the quote from Douglas Jerrold. One more time, it must be run here:
'Unhappiness is not knowing what you want and trying desperately to get it.'

The John Edwards saga keeps going on and on about his relationship with that woman. It seems the most common complaint is from the people who were close to him that feel betrayed by his rock star behavior. Didn't anyone learn anything from the Clinton scandal? Celebrities of any kind dally when they choose to and being only human do it far too easily....
Check out this tidbit from The Enquirer. While any article could be false and untrue, if in fact Edwards continues to see Rielle Hunter and her baby because the baby probably is his child...and supposedly his wife knows about the affair...is it possible that she told him it was okay? Is it possible that the two of them have some deal because surely Elizabeth Edwards does not have to put up with him having a continued affair...um, but if the baby is Edwards' and it's hard to believe it is really the child of his campaign staffer, that would explain continued contact with Hunter..maybe it's worse than that though, maybe John and Elizabeth have an arrangement because of her condition....it makes you wonder...

Maybe Elizabeth Edwards puts up with it all for the kids.

Finally, Democrats keep crying what about John McCain? What about him? He has his past, he has made it public, the stories are known, the censure has been aired, it's just that it comes from the past and certainly is not so rock star like as Edwards. Edwards just annoys people because he pretends to be so clean, neat and wholesome. This blogger never trusted him....Ladies never trust a man who spends that much time on his hair without your help, who acts so chipper and dandy, no matter what your political party is...

The U.S. is going to spend resources to help calm things in Georgia. Maybe the President does not want Putin to get the idea that he can do whatever just because the U.S. is engaged in Iraq or that the U.S. has an election going on at the moment. And one cannot forget the Olympics either....as they draw attention away from the rest of the world.

And the Dems have revealed that Mark Warner will be the Dems keynote speaker on the second night of the Democratic Convention. Mark Warner is probably one of the most charismatic Democrats in the country...and he hasn't been sullied by controversy unlike some other people...

The night of Warner's speech is also the night that the Democrats will have the theme be 'Renewing America's Promise' good luck with that one! Hillary Clinton has already muddied the race and made things seem less bright. Don't forget the fun that John Edwards has brought to the forefront lately...at least Edwards admitted the truth finally about his affair. Yep, yep. It's all about the debates this Fall.

Ironically, inside the beltway people seem to be about as excited about the race this year as tar burning on the road. Maybe this blogger is jaded, but Obama holds the experience to manage his campaign not the country..and McCain's got it, he just took all the fun away during his maverick years for the base. Oh well, McCain never made promises he wouldn't or couldn't keep once in office.

It is probably more correct to say that the area is simply a symbol for the tension between India and Pakistan, Muslims vs. Hindus mostly....it was only 2003 when the two countries were freaking everyone out at the idea of potential nuclear war. Does anything ever change??? One would have been hesitant two weeks ago, to even bring the subject up...Iran, Iraq, Israel's problems, the Chinese, India vs. Pakistan, Russia....

And in honor of the retirement of this quote from my Facebook wall, it will be posted today and Friday.

'Unhappiness is not knowing what you want and trying desperately to get it.' -Douglas Jerrold

A great quote with a wealth of deepness and truth. It is one of the hardest things in life to be someone that strives for success but has no idea what the success they actually need is in this world. But after 6 years it no longer applies, so maybe someone else can use it now.

DNC: Hillary Clinton is not the VP pick

By James Pindell

While they probably did not intend it this way, the Democratic National Committee just stated that New York Sen. Hillary Clinton will not be Barack Obama's pick for vice president.

In recent months there was a growing sense that Obama would pick someone other than his one-time Democratic rival for the nomination. A website developed by two former Clinton aides, voteboth.com, even stopped their efforts to put the two together because they were convinced it would not happen.

But in announcing the line-up for the Democratic National Convention in Denver today, the DNC made it official for the first time. On Tuesday night, Hillary Clinton will be given the prime time keynote speaking slot. On Wednesday the same time will be given to the vice presidential pick. Two different people on two different nights.

This does not preclude Obama from picking Clinton anyway though it would be a little odd that a convention he is essentially running on would reverse itself in such a dramatic way.

A.) It's very flattering to now that people want to get their blogs on this blog, what are we? Glenn Reynolds or something?

B.) This article makes a completely moot point, everyone knows Hillary is not going to be the VP pick for Obama as has already been stated here...Tim Kaine maybe, but not Hillary. More importantly, the Hillary monster would never want now, what she could gain in fuller glory in four more years. That's her plan for 2012, you know, to be President, when McCain retires....

C.) Furthermore, Obama would probably kill Hillary before making her his running mate...although Mitt Romney could still end up with John McCain.

D.) SO let's talk about who else will not be Vice President to be!!!!!!!!! John Edwards, not with his affair with Rielle Hunter. This lady Rielle Hunter who seduced John Edwards, yeah, you might put her in the Sociopath next door category. Read the Fox column on her today and the link to Newsweek. She compares John Edwards to Gandhi and disses his cancer stricken wife. She claims to be a spiritual master of some sort, in this case a new ager, a charismatic personality and obviously lacking morals. Although, this woman is not the prettiest one in the bunch, she is the thinnest maybe, but surely he could have found someone prettier...it must have been all her compliments to his ego.

Yuck, this blogger found previous posts on her that claim she was straight up a new age witch. Oh dear...please don't put a hex on this blogger for saying that...thing is, a person doesn't have to be a sociopath to be immoral, or a witch to have an affair with a married politician, that's just an extra bonus with her. BTW-no one believes that the child is from one of Edward's staffers. Poor kid! No matter though since Hunter will not consent to a paternity test. Poor kid! He's got a crazy mommy and a bad daddy. This blogger always thought he was too cute and too smooth to be a good guy and be faithful to his wife.

The Olympics in China obviously have people excited. But, the event also raises the hackles of people who remember Tianamen square in 1989. One thought is that it seems that no matter how bad the Chinese economic policies are or how much the U.S. distrusts their government-the fact that they have money now from their fusion communist and capitalist policies makes them someone to respect. It seems the days of the U.S. protesting the way the Chinese treat their citizens are over.

Anyways, the email below came in from my friend Kin Ming Liu in Hong Kong about the upcoming Olympics in China.. He is a Chinese journalist who once lived in Washington, DC and moved to Hong Kong a few years ago. It is an email within an email. Here is the email:

Hello,

I'm forwarding a message from my good friend Ellen Bork. Use this map if you are visiting Peking. Many thanks.

     Dear Friends,
With all of the attention being paid to Beijing and the Olympics, two friends and I thought a little attention might be diverted to another major event in the city's history. Using information provided by Ding Zilin and the Tiananmen Mothers, Philip Chalk, a graphic designer, Tian Jian, a student protester in 1989, and I put the identified victims of the June 4, 1989 massacre on an English language map. Here is a link: www.massacremap.com

It's the Friday Fry Up and it's August. Surprisingly, there are things happening that are interesting right now...

Remember how it was reported here almost a year ago that John Edwards was having an affair on his wife? Well, now you know it's true for sure. So gross, his wife has cancer! Dems can be happy that he is not the nominee. We know Obama would be dead before the news hit if he cheated on his wife.

And thanks to McCain's campaign, we have funnier things to talk about... So forget the Olympics which open tonight and examine the Obama is just like Britney spears ad for a moment by the McCain camp.

McCain released an ad</u> this week that has had people talking...it must be the best publicity stunt ever.. The ad attacks Barack Obama by comparing him to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, but in the end it seems to have some pretty positive spin if one considers the subtle results.

First, let's consider the McCain campaign's explanation for the ad. The campaign's thoughts make sense, Obama is very much a celebrity. He is very much liked for his appearance and the idea of him, instead of who he actually is or what he has done to earn the office of President.

And this blogger is suspicious of the Paris Hilton counter ad/film from Live Funny or Die. Hilton obviously counters with the information that has been provided to her from the Live Funny or Die writers who are GENIUSES. The thing is, her response is almost exactly like what McCain would propose for our problems with energy. Huh. Is this all just a mischievous plot to take attention away from Obama? The more people see the ad the more they will think of Obama as a celebrity, can't be helped...he has to respond by being less of a celebrity type...this blogger already sees him as being more arrogant....or is it just an event for Paris Hilton?

Note: The McCain campaign received money from the Hilton's (pointed out by The Daily Show), so nobody can accuse McCain of being someone who is bought off...and one almost has to respect him for his choice.

It certainly has created a flurry of responses in a rather boring time when it's usually advised to stay quiet.
National Review Online's thoughts...

Today Show.

Huh, well this blogger was hoping something would happen so life would stop being soooo boring over the Summer. And it's all Thanks to the McCain campaign..unless one counts Senator Stevens' problems.

In every Presidential race personalities play a huge factor. The person's charisma, or lack of it, face and manner are what sometimes win or loose the whole country. These days rumors abound about McCain and Obama. People trade barbs on the street over which candidate is more charming or not charming...and of course some insults tend to fly as well. Even now, people trade insults over the President, 'Bush is psycho over the war' and 'Bill Clinton was a born sociopath, that's why he does what he does to Hillary and the rest of us'.

The terms psychopath and sociopath fly freely in political circles to explain crazy bosses, co-workers, ex-spouses, ex-lovers, and even obnoxious donors. The terms also fly freely in the Entertainment world as well. Guess what? The terms so freely used may actually be more correct than you want to know.

Let's define for a moment what a Sociopath is and what a Psychopath is - in fact a psychologist by the name of Dr. Robert Hare at the University of British Columbia has been writing a lot about the two lately. Here is the link for a Psychopath. The two terms can be used interchangeably depending on the person in question, but frankly psychologists shy away from the terms because of their use in films to depict cold blooded killers. They now talk about people with Anti Social Personality Disorder and Narcissitic Personality Disorder. People often think of Hitler as a psychopath, but guess what, he doesn't fit the full profile. Psychopaths make up 25% of the prison population and guess what, they scare the other prisoners. Sociopaths on the other hand lack some of the outright violence and trouble with the justice system seen earlier in life. They are your classic white collar criminal and are more likely to blend better in society.
A surprising trend has begun wherein society is trying to investigate if Sociopaths or even Psychopaths are useful because of their ability to manipulate others and drive profits in the business world. The glitch is that these types of people drive and drive without thought or care until they drive the business they are in - to the ground. So they are not good for your business, they may drive profits for awhile until they are driving you and that is when the real fun begins....

According to a new book by Martha Stout The Sociopath Next Door, Sociopath's at least make up 4% of the population, that's 1 in 25 people. This statistic might have some of you breathing a sigh of relief, you are not crazy, someone else is....

Stout explains very carefully the characteristics of the Sociopath.

* Sociopaths learn early on to show sham emotion, but underneath they live only to dominate others and win.
    * They have a kind of glow or charisma that makes them more charming or interesting than the other people around them. They are more spontaneous, more intense, complex, or even sexier than everyone else.
    * They crave stimulation and excitement, often showing brief intense enthusiasms that they later drop.
    * They are seductive, encouraging others to take risks.
    * They will tell you that you are just like them. Don't believe it.

So, this might explain why sociopaths are attracted to Entertainment, Politics, the law, or become leaders of religious groups. And why they do so well in these areas, their personalities fit the bill of work and...because in fact we all like Sociopaths for their glow, constant stream of flattery, and ability to perform. One might also say, 'but there are lots of people that I like who are not crazy, who glow, that I like working for, and working with, to date, to marry' and that is valid. There are far more charismatic people in the world than people born without the parts needed to empathize with other people. The number of sociopaths and psychopaths is around 65 million out of billions of people.

Martha Stout also talks about the Sociopath as world leader explaining that no one should ever let a leader push them to war by using fear tactics, things like if we don't attack, they will attack us and so on....or even flattery of the nation.

Throughout all of human history and to the present, the call to war has included the flattering claim that one's own forces are about to accomplish a victory that will change the world for the better, a triumph that is morally laudable, justified by its humane outcome, unique in human endeavor, righteous, and worthy of enormous gratitude. Since we began to record the human story, all of our major wars have been framed in this way, on all sides of the conflict, and in all languages the adjective most often applied to the word war is the word holy. An argument can easily be made that humanity will have peace when nations of people are at last able to see through this masterful flattery.

So, there is a jab here at President Bush, it doesn't take much thought to see the reference. In fact very little Googling will help you find posts such as Bush is a Sociopath and so on...how about saying that we must elect Obama or we will be ruined, that we can't take another four years of Bush? Who said that John McCain was anything like Bush? That seems to apply to the fear factor. Super bright charismatic charm, shiny eyes, and the ability to always say the right thing to flatter while pushing the fear factor. It sounds like, no, well it can't be....eh, it could just be politics. The point of Stout's book is question authority and don't go for the shiniest, brightest person with the silver tongue.

And best of all, this blogger personally likes this bit of advice the best.

The best way to protect yourself from a sociopath is to avoid him, to refuse any kind of contact or communication.
Psychologists do not usually like to recommend avoidance, but in this case, I make a very deliberate exception. The only truly effective method for dealing with a sociopath you have identified is to disallow him or her from your life altogether. Sociopaths live completely outside of the social contract, and therefore to include them in relationships or other social arrangements is perilous. Begin this exclusion of them in the context of your own relationships and social life. You will not hurt anyone's feelings. Strange as it seems, and though they may try to pretend otherwise, sociopaths do not have any such feelings to hurt.
You may never be able to make your family and friends understand why you are avoiding a particular individual. Sociopathy is surprisingly difficult to see, and harder to explain. Avoid hi/her anyway.

If total avoidance is impossible, make plans to come as close as you can to the goal of total avoidance.

Sociopaths are harder to spot and even harder to explain to others, people will always be attracted to them, so don't bother, just get away. The best part is that Sociopaths don't care if you like them or not, they were not born with the right parts to care anyways. On the other hand, if you are neurotic you will care way too much about them, pity them, worry about social graces and that is a waste of time. You won't hurt anyone by ditching the Sociopath, but you will hurt someone, yourself, by staying around them.

On the other hand any professional can tell you that only a psychiatrist or psychologist can truly diagnose one of these types, so don't play doctor on your own family or friends.

That still doesn't erase the 90's for me...

It's Friday, it's the beginning of August, that means recess on the hill, that means fun, that means heat. Sometimes DC actually begins to feel dirty in August, there is so much heat, humidity and the rain storms don't come as often..the grass turns brown without water...it's a gross time...and a slow one for some people...but you can be guaranteed with the RNC convention coming on 09/1-4/08 and the DNC convention coming on 08/25-28/08 things will be smokin' for some people. Anyways, it is time for the Fry Up!

So this came in from the Ron Paul spokesperson Jesse Benton yesterday:

Friends,

An update on the Rally for the Republic. In a video message to supporters today, Dr. Paul announced that country music star Rocky Lynne and Gov. Jesse Ventura, both Minnesota natives, will join us in our program. We are thrilled that these two patriots and military veterans will be lending their voices to our Rally.

To view Dr. Paul's message, click here.

Also, we expect another major announcement next week, so stay tuned!

Yes, if you did not know, Ron Paul is having a rally during the Republican Convention and it is doing better than one might expect...
Apparently, the Democrats are in the hole for their convention. Ya don't say? The Democrats with their environmentally chic, union made products, and their spending ways are in the hole for something??! Who'd have thunk it?? Whatever happened to conserving to save the environment? Oh no, that would be too simple and cost effective.

Now it's time to get serious, the Democrats are considering Tim Kaine for Vice President. Actually, Obama is the one who must think about it...forgive this blogger if she doubts his ability to make the decision on his own.. Moreover, Tim Kaine has been a huge tax monster while running Virginia, the personal property tax has gone up, their is an SUV tax now that is big, he was part of the plan to put in a gas tax (thank the Lord it did not go through the legislature stopped it). And what has Tim Kaine done for the state? Not sure. Tim Kaine would make life very hard at a very uneasy time in this country. The gas tax issue was enough to make this blogger enraged.

And this week Bennigan's closed their corporate stores with independent franchises remaining open...oh so sad! This blogger still remembers eating a monte christo and a chocolate milkshake at one in Chicago in 2001 by the art institute. And again that year the day after her grandmother's funeral in Florida...not a pleasant sign of the times.

Finally, this blogger was met with the unwelcome reality that if one does business with Paypal, once can expect to be treated very poorly at some point. In fact the service is currently being sued in two different class actions for the poor service. Paypal does not have good customer service, there are several scams right now which are very smart that Paypal is not dealing with very well. Moreover, if you are scammed while using Paypal and loose hundreds of dollars, Paypal will tell you it's your fault and do nothing to help you. Finally, Paypal is not a bank, they are not held to the same laws as banks and if they loose your money, it's your problem. This blogger would warn all, bloggers, merchants, non profits, do not use Paypal, spend the money to use another service for your own welfare.

That's all! Have a nice week-end and drive safe!

It would have to be now in the months before the election that Ted Stevens would finally be punished for his fat cat ways. Oh no, it could not have happened years ago, like in 2005, when the famous bridge to nowhere was being attacked. That was a warning for Stevens to change his ways.

The bridge by the way, was a multi-million dollar project project that would be financed with you guessed it, your tax dollars. The project was to build a bridge to an island that was mostly uninhabited off the coast of Alaska. It turned out that Stevens' mother, or mother in law, or who knows, maybe his dog lived on the island and it was really an opportunity to give Alaska business and help himself out at the same time.

Stevens' project was eventually defeated in Congress by other Republican members, and it should be noted McCain was part of the group that wanted to defeat the appropriation bill (Republicans were in the majority of the U.S. Senate). One of the major reasons the press and the liberals are not making more out of Stevens trouble is that many Democrats would happily appropriate that much money for a project..moreover everyone knows it was the Conservatives who wanted Stevens taken down because he has been such a bad spender for so long.

He represents the kind of politician that makes people not like politicians and politics, and if you are married to a party instead of your values there are plenty of politicians who will fail you that way. Power corrupts and most people have a hard time saying no to the goodies....but Stevens' has been known for years as someone who liked his candy. He's like the Representative John Murtha of the Senate, except well...this VECO thing sounds nuts.

The Justice Department accused Stevens of accepting expensive work on his home in Girdwood, Alaska, a ski resort town outside Anchorage, from VECO and its executives. VECO normally builds oil processing equipment and pipelines, but its employees helped do the work on Stevens' home.

Prosecutors said that work included a new first floor, garage, wraparound deck, plumbing and electrical wiring. He also is accused of accepting from VECO a gas grill, furniture and tools, and of failing to report swapping an old Ford for a new Land Rover for his daughter Lily.

(Note that is the justice department under our President Bush.)

Anyways. Don't get it wrong, in 2005 Senate staff and Congressmen felt bad about hurting the old guy so much by defeating his bridge appropriation, he has worked there for a long time, he has lots of respect and power. And it took the other Senators who had just as much clout, to take their own careers and friendships in mind, to stop the bill. Of course, the massive outrage from activist groups over the bridge to nowhere helped...and the media's push too. In fact, there were rumors at the time that Stevens actually cried on the Senate floor, not literally the floor, when his colleagues went against him. It makes him sound almost childlike... or spoiled.

He's a fat cat.

The New York Times opinion article on McCain and his dislike for Ted Stevens is quite favorable to McCain actually. It points out that in the past McCain actually was against some of the things that made Stevens so smarmy in the end. Like the bridge to nowhere...

“Like every American, Senator Stevens is entitled to the presumption of innocence,’’ she said. “Senator McCain and Senator Stevens have clashed famously over the appropriations process, which Senator McCain views as broken and subject to the type of corruption that has caused voters to lose faith with Washington.

Some of the media is confused, they talk about the GOP distancing themselves and giving shaky support. They don't realize that Steven's has been in trouble for years, blown off requests to change his ways, and that the GOP gave up on him years ago...no distancing has to be done..it happened bit by bit over the years.

So the point is, Stevens' is not the key to, or even representative of the Republicans and has not been for a long time. And he certainly is no Senator Larry Craig. Sorry Obama lovers! Better luck next time, in fact one might want to see how Obama felt back in 2005 about the bridge to nowhere, or any other number of Stevens' projects.

In honor of Stevens today, this blogger will post a link on how to escape from handcuffs. Chances are he won't receive the full five years that each of his 7 counts could get...35 years that would mean he would probably die in prison at his age.

Dear Friends:

My new book, The Case against Barack Obama, is now available on Amazon.com. In fact, I am #68 overall on Amazon today. You can help me improve that by clicking through here and buying the book.

The release date is this coming Monday -- August 4, Senator Obama's birthday. I am scheduled to begin television and radio appearances that night, beginning with Hannity and Colmes.

I promise you that it is a good read, and you'll enjoy it. For those of you in the D.C. area, I also promise to throw a party at some point soon (probably later in August) to celebrate its release. If you bring your book, I'll even sign it for you. Further details will follow.

Thanks!

One cannot promise you will be invited to said party. Check out the book anyways so that you can argue intelligently with your friends.

It looks like the hot issue for the political debates will involve Gas. As people drive to and from the beach this summer and wherever else, the big thought is constantly, can I afford the gas?

It's a sad day when a girl can't go on a vacation because it costs to much for gas. And the gas hysteria is rising...the oil companies were already dragged in front of congress and questioned...the oil business can't help the nature of speculation...but then again....they can...one almost starts to wonder if the oil companies know what they are doing anymore...making lots of money...but have they thought about the loss of profits if the current situation continues and everyone switches to some other form of energy eventually? Critics and supporters complain that the oil will always be our main form of energy, but that seems ridiculous. There simply comes a point when cost outweighs the benefit. Think about it, another energy source or plan will make the middle eastern situation null. If money is not being poured into the middle east for oil, then there is no need for U.S. intervention except that the rest of the world might still want oil for energy use. So then the U.S. is still stuck trying to protect that source of money from the terrorists. And the general craziness of some of the people...sometimes the Middle East's hold on oil and the problems over there are like the hold of an abusive relationship, the longer one stays, the harder it is to leave, the more crazy things become..and the abusive personality knows that....
People are trying desperately in some cases to find ways to get away from oil and especially foreign oil. ANWAR is still the hot solution to foreign oil dependence...it's just that the environmentalists want to argue about that...they must enjoy paying too much for gas. It's hard to trust anyone that seems to have a socialist or even communist agenda for solving a problem that is far too serious. Alternative energy sources sound great, just find one that works.

In the meantime the politicians continue to use the issue to argue and support their own ambitions for power-or in case you don't get it, you pay for their energy costs, so they don't really care about your problems. <a href="href="http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080729100013.adncmy7o&show_article=1"">The hysteria and pain at the pump is just energy for their machinations. You can tell the politicians that really care because they aren't arguing about the solution using it as a grandstand, they are working on getting it done.

The day is soon coming though when the decision will be forced and it could be the wrong solution at the right time.

The President signed a bailout plan for homeowners in trouble which would allow them to get government backed loan help, so they don't have to have their homes foreclosed on.....

Despite reservations, Bush ready to sign mortgage relief for 400,000 strapped homeowners

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congress approved mortgage relief for 400,000 struggling homeowners Saturday as part of an election-year housing plan that also aims to calm jittery financial markets and bolster the sagging economy. President Bush said he would sign it promptly, despite reservations.

Well if one wanted to get a nice deal on a condo that has been foreclosed on, better get moving...

Oy Vey. This brings up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac again. One must take a moment to remind people that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been having problems with their staff for a few years now, going back to 2004.

Now the fashion industry is getting all melodramatic too.

Oh give me a break, apparently depression era clothes are coming back because designers think we are in a state of economic depression so severe our clothes should express that too. Really? If we are in a state of severe economic depression like that of the 1930's what are the people at FT trying to sell clothes for? People didn't buy clothes when it was that bad, duh. Y'all need to stop whining. 'Fashion designers! Don't get rid of blingy clothes and start trying to cover up women with paper bags...that's not going to go over well with anybody!' Duh. Besides, the bejeweled clothing fad just started, it will be two seasons before people are done with that one.(Dressing every women like she is pregnant is bad enough.) Duh.

Moving along.

Governor Paterson of New York state says the state is not doing well and may be facing 1970's like problems with the economy. Okay, okay with gas prices and all one can say 1970's hysteria is possible. Ooh, the 9170's were weird, people used bad colors in their homes, bad suits, and lots of drugs. Does that mean we have to start having spouse swap parties again? What if one doesn't have a spouse to swap? The divorce rates are higher now. Can you swap an ex spouse? How about sending the ex spouse to a party and staying home to watch Desperate Housewives? Can one do that?? This decade isn't a postmortem to the 60's either, the U.S. has learned a lot since that time. At least we have anti depressants now!

And please don't tell us we have to elect another Jimmy Carter, that is one mistake that does not have to be repeated.

Ack, this blogger had to get up early this morning and the whole day is now off..it's time for the Friday Fry Up!

So, this week was a rolling run of people that McCain might pick to be his VP candidate. Pawlenty..Romney...what happened to the Colin Powell idea? Or Condi Rice? MAN!

Such a tease.

And no one in Hollywood is being crazy enough to warrant censure, rehab, or ridicule, yet. Go Watch E! News if you need something...well, Christian Bale went off verbally on his mommy and sister. Okay, censure Christian Bale!

This article came out earlier this week from the New Yorker. It describes the eerie feeling the author got as he watched Heath Ledger play the joker in the Dark Knight.

And it has one startling and artful element: the sinister and frightening performance of the late Heath Ledger as the psychopathic murderer the Joker. That part of the movie is upsetting to watch, and, in retrospect, both painful and stirring to think about.

“The Dark Knight,” which was directed by Christopher Nolan (who also made “Batman Begins”) and written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan, is devoted to perversity. Bruce Wayne, attempting to bring order to Gotham City, has instead provoked the thugs. The mob is running rampant, and they’ve infiltrated the police department. The Joker, who doesn’t care for money and wants only the power to sow chaos, intimidates everyone, including the gangsters. Wayne and the noble Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) decide to get behind the new D.A., Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), and set him up as Gotham’s crime-fighting hero. Batman even thinks of retiring. But the Joker won’t let him; he needs him, as someone to play with. An anarchist by philosophy, the Joker uses terrorist methods (bombs, bombs, bombs), and he has an enormous advantage over the principled Batman—he’s ruthless. So the Joker taunts and giggles, and Batman can only extend his wings.

It's true Heath Ledger does a real good job of playing an anarchist freak. (Note to reader: Do not marry or date anyone who ever claims to be an anarchist. You might one day find yourself in chaos that they have created with them laughing at your misery like the Joker sans paint face. If someone tells you they are an anarchist-whatever, just be polite and exit stage left ASAP.)

But the media has spent so much time talking about how upsetting Heath Ledger's performance is? Really? The movie is upsetting, it is an in depth look at evil gone loose, the lack of control that one has over the innate evil of chaos. Batman, the police and the mafia all take turns trying to appease the Joker never getting that the Joker doesn't want something specific from them, he just wants chaos and pain in general to come from his orchestrations. Even if, and this is important, even if the chaos includes him being killed or maimed too....don't take your kids.

In the end, it was more the quality of the acting that struck this blogger, the complete inhabitation of the character that Heath Ledger gave...but so did Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman (Hello! One might not even recognize him?), Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman. The film was literally free of the flawed acting that often dogs major comic
films. Is it just because the other actors were playing more simple less obvious characters that the media keeps playing up Heath Ledger? Is it the actor's death? Or is it that the studio does not know of a way outside of talking about Heath's acting and then his haunting death to promote a film where one of the major cast members is dead?

Frankly this blogger expected more, yes more after all the hype from the film. Heath Ledger was a good actor, he appeared to be someone that liked to entertain and act from his work. The part of the joker was just another addition to his portfolio of work, another way to extend himself professionally, a part to play in a gripping frighteningly good film that made great use of the mind's own ability to fear what comes next. Really, the film will leave you on the edge of your seat and paranoid on your way to the parking lot.

The emphasis on Ledger's death and the supposition that the film did it to him, negates his own problems as a person. His demons that plagued him before the film and after the film, but it also ruins the rest of his catalog of works, and denies his place in the world as someone who in fact preferred to create for a living as opposed to destroying things. Or even that he had a child who is now without her Dad.

It was just a movie.

Excuse me, this blogger needs to get off her soapbox now.
